Smoke reservoirs (curtains and baffles)

These products are used as part of Smoke Exhaust Systems as required in Specification E2.2b of the Building Code of Australia. They form part of a smoke exhaust system to assist in maintaining an effective smoke layer to allow smoke and heat vents to exhaust smoke from fire compartments. These products may be automatic smoke curtains or fixed baffles. There are no current Australian Standards for these products and the BCA only calls for non-combustible and non-shatterable construction, though many suppliers have testing as required in the UK to BS 7346 series. This requires testing to the basic principles of AS1530/4 up to 600 degrees Celsius and total exposure time of 30 minutes at this level. These products have no measurable smoke leakage data at given pressure differentials - See also smoke containment systems.
