Fire rated cables are designed for use with essential services (eg. fire fighters lifts, emergency lighting, smoke exhaust fans and the like) that need to continue to operate (maintain circuit integrity) during a fire. They are typically fire tested to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 3013-1995.
Fire resistant cables (low fire/smoke spread) cables have core materials with low fire and smoke spread characteristics so as not to contribute excessively to the spread of fire and smoke evolved in a fire situation.
Cable coatings/paints can be applied to non rated cables for use with essential services (eg. fire fighters lifts, emergency lighting, smoke exhaust fans and the like) that need to continue to operate (maintain circuit integrity) during a fire. They are typically fire tested to meet the requirements of AS/NZS 3013-1995.
