Doors (fire and smoke)

Fire doors are typically designed, fire tested and installed in accordance with AS1530/4 and AS/NZS1905/1.

Life Safety doors is a new generic term that relates to doors suitable for fire engineering projects utilising so called “Alternative Solutions” where tenability in egress routes needs to be maintained to acceptable levels whilst occupants of the building escape.

Smoke doors do not have a BCA reference standard for leakage testing or design and installation.  AS/NZS1530/7-1998, although published and well supported by industry is yet to be called up in the BCA.  A product standard, dealing with design, variations from fire tested specimen, and the installation of smoke doors is currently being worked on by the SAA committee FP19.
